This is as close to Darth Maul's lightsaber as you could get.
By grochalj
The hilt is polished metal and intricately designed. It has the weight and feel of a real lightsaber, while not being too heavy to enjoy.

The removable blade allows the hilt to be displayed independently, but the display stand will hold the blade and hilt attached or unattached.

The blade is easy on off and the hilt makes a sound when the blade detaches. The hilt comes with a metal cap to replace where the blade comes off to complete the lightsaber hilt look. You can even attach it to your belt via a holder that comes with ii for that true Star Wars feel.

The FX design is amazing. The lightsaber "ignites" and "extinguishes" the same as in the movies and the red glow is good in almost any light.

The sound effects are true to the movies and the saber sounds exactly as you'd expect. The idle hum on this saber is deep and crackly, more vicious sounding then the other force fx sabers - when I first ingnited it it was hard to get used to only having owned the smother jedi sabers. I thought at first it was a defect, but that's exactly what it was suppose to sound like. Pretty cool now that I know and it adds to the Sith effect.

The removable blade is on and off no problem, but you can feel a slight wiggle sometimes if you don't tighten the grip for the blade when putting it back on. But once you tighten it you should not have a problem.

I had to get 2 just t make the double bladed version and I have to say it doesn't disappoint. My friends and I have purchased some of these mainly to beat up and as long as you are not trying to kill each other, they can take a pretty good beating. I know other companies are trying to brag better construction and durability, but take this for what it is - a sturdy, great looking, high-tech toy/collectible - and you will not be disappointed.

Basically, its amazing for any adult star wars fan.

If you want the closest thing to a lightsaber, then this product is for you!
By acemace3618
I have had this lightsaber for nearly 4 months and it is truly awesome, it won't do you much good if you want to duel with it because it is a licensed collectable and is meant for display purposes only, though you can duel with it, you have to make sure not to use excessive FORCE! or you will break the blade causing it to flicker, I had to learn this the hard way when I was younger and battled it out with my obi-wan kenobi fx lightsaber with my friends other fx saber's and broke every single led in the blade. Anyway about this lightsaber, it is made out of some sort of metal, I am pretty sure it is aluminum. as for the aesthetics, Darth Maul's lightsaber is simple, yet very nice looking, with a smooth looking silver hilt with black and red accents. The lightsaber take 3 AAA battery's which are inserted and screwed into the bottom of the lightsaber. The blade glows a very bright red that looks good in the dark. When turned on and off the blade corresponds to the sound that is outputted, when turning on the blade it will ignite from the bottom to the top, when turned off the blade with retract from the top to the bottom - a very nice effect. As for the sound - IT IS REALLY LOUD, the lightsaber has actual recorded lighsaber sound effects from the Phantom Menace. These sound effects are outputted when you hit an object, this will cause the blade to make battle clash sound effects, also it will make power up/down, and idle sounds. The battery life is pretty impressive, 3 AAA battery's will power this device for approximately 6-7 hours, which is plenty of play time. The main reason why I bought this particular lightsaber was for the removable blade! past force fx lightsabers did not come with this feature which left many disappointed. Now with the hidden screw on the lightsaber you can have the blade on/off in less than 20 seconds! The accessories that come with the lightsaber are a stand, an adapter with allen wrench so you can connect two of these baby's together! a hook to attach the lightsaber to your belt! and a metal igniter cover to put on your lightsaber when you disconnect the blade. Overall I think it well worth the $120, I am very happy and satisfied with my purchase because I am a true star wars fan. Recommended for any star wars fans!

FX Lightsabers are great!
By James Dendy
This Star Wars FX Darth Maul lightsaber is all that you would want in an upscale toy. It's very realistic, as real as a lightsaber can be, considering that they are really just special effects on the big screen. It's nice that the blade is detachable, so that you can just sport the hilt and not have the unlit blade just hanging there. Also, the power up and power down motion and sound effects of the blade activating and deactivating are very good. It simply looks stunning in the dark or low light. Pretty good in full light, probably barely visible in daylight, I imagine. I did not test it outside on a sunny day. The sound is very loud, and the clashes and movement sounds are right on cue, unless the battery gets low. Not a big problem if so, the AA batteries are easy to change.

The quality of workmanship is very good, which you would expect for the price. I don't believe it would stand up to a lot of serious dueling, but for play with young children or other adults who understand that it can't take a lot of hard hits, I'm sure it would be fine for many years. For older children who are rambunctious or a little destructive (read average 10 year old boy), it probably wouldn't make it through the month and still have all the functions working. Another nice feature for really serious fans is the ability to link 2 together to make a full staff, like Darth Maul has before it's cut in half. Twice the cost, though. I can't see any really big Star Wars fan who really digs Darth Maul wanting to be without them, though. All in all, it's a nice collector's item quality toy that's also fun to play with and show off, and really impresses people, even adults when shown. Every kid that sees it always just says, "Wow"!
