Great bed for Preschool Princess
By 2grlsmom
I purchased this bed for my 3 year old (for her third birthday)after considering many other "princess" type beds including loft beds. I wanted something fun but durable. It arrived via freight. The instructions are simple and took my husband about an hour and a half to put together. The pieces snap together and then large screws firmly hold all pieces in place. You will need some strength to snap a few of the pieces. I also highly recommend an electric screwdriver (in fact the instructions call for it). The instructions also call for a 7" mattress. This is necessary for the side railings to be effective. If you have an older child this requirement shouldn't be too much of a concern. The bed comes with an LED light that runs on 3 AAA batteries. This light is very weak and you should not expect your child to be able to read by this light. There is also no Auto shut off. The good thing is that the light doesn't heat up at all. Also, this bed takes up more space than what is shown in the picture (looks like a toddler bed but is really a twin) so note the measurements when ordering. You will need some space. My daughter had no trouble transitioning from a crib to this bed. There are several shelves and cubbies for her books and toys. The bed supports up to 300 lbs and cleans up easily with mild soap and water. This bed is very sturdy and I would call it "heirloom quality"! The recommended age is 3 and up - perfect for preschool and grade school age.

Great bed for a Princess but getting it put together was not so great..
By Kimberly V.
I ordered this bed as a birthday gift for my daughter who just turned three. The order took about 2 days to ship however it was sent on a Friday to the freight carrier and somehow rather than coming from it's original destination it traveled from Port Columbus Ohio Airport to the Ukraine and then made it's way back to Port Columbus Ohio and then to LAX for delivery. I called the carrier, CEVA to inquire as to why the bed went to the Ukraine and was told it hadn't, that I didn't understand the tracking information I had seen and that the bed would be delivered in 5 days. Having a vast background in Customer Service, you never, ever call your customer wrong like that so I was quite dismayed that I had no choice in dealing with this carrier. The day before the bed arrived I received a call from CEVA to schedule an appointment for the following day. The next day the delivery guys called 45 mins early and asked if they could deliver early, that worked out better for me and they arrived about 5 minutes after calling. They were helpful and willing to bring the bed inside for me.

The bed came packaged nicely and the box had hardly any damage. The bed comes in one very large, very heavy box. I agree with a previous reviewer about unpacking the box downstairs if you have to and carrying each piece upstairs. The individual pieces aren't very heavy. I believe it came in approx 7-10 pieces. All the hardware was included with "picture" directions. The bed is made from the same hard, sturdy plastic that other Little Tikes/Step 2 products are made from. Each piece interlocked into another which took patience and strength to get them to fit together correctly. The most difficult and trying part was putting the screws in. This step was difficult enough to warrant the loss of a star in my rating. None of the screw holes were drilled so be prepared with an electric drill or have a hammer and screwdriver ready to pierce the hard plastic. Once the holes were made getting the screws in place wasn't very difficult. Do take note though with your finger tip as to where the screws should be placed, you can feel a small indentation marking the correct placement. It's as if they meant to drill the holes in manufacturing but just didn't.

Once all the screws were in place it was time to put the cross boards in. The two small cross boards fit perfectly however the larger two boards used for the platform portion that goes under the mattress for support, don't fit correctly. They are about an inch to inch and a half too short on either side. Fortunately it isn't a big deal and won't cause a problem. The bed is very sturdy when put together and easily fit myself, 6 year old and 3 year old. The mattress I used was a 7" mattress and was about 2 inches too short at the top so I simply took two small toddler sized pillows and put in the space. It simply made it like a little headrest for her.

It's a cute bed and should last a long time. I am pleased with the decision I made to purchase from Amazon however think Amazon should reconsider it's carrier choice. If you Google CEVA Logistics you will find poor reviews with lots of lost packages. In the end my daughter is happy with her new big girl princess bed so i'm a happy mama :)

Good outlook but bad design
By CodeMan
Here is an engineer's perspective on this bed. This is a perfect example of a good art in a bad frame. The artistic design of this bed is excellent. Whereas, the technical design is poor at best. you can't use a Box Spring or Foundation with this bed. The support that comes with this bed must have been designed by the three stooges. Two pieces of particle boards that is supported by a plastic stool and two wooden bars do not fit properly. The bottom side of the mumbo jumbo is about 2" shorter than the box spring so you could not put a box spring instead if you wanted to. The practical boards are not wide enough to reach the side rails of the bed (shown by the white bridge area in the picture).

It was fairly easy to put the bed together. Instructions were simple to understand. All the pieces do not fit together perfectly but I can live with that.

An option to use a Mattress foundation if you wanted to and 3 wooden bars and a little wider particle board would improve this bed drastically.
