Cute, but only for one night!

I bought this for my 7-year old son, and it was definitely not worth the $30 I spent on it last week! First of all, make sure you have a lot of stuffing available if you want to give it the 3D effect. I used the packaging materials from three separate packages I received last week, and it was not enough. My husband suggested maybe a blanket to fill it out better, but I'm afraid it's going to pull the seams apart even more or maybe even fall apart altogether. We already used this costume last Friday night for his Halloween festival at his school, and we're not going to be able to use it again for Halloween without reinforcing some of the seams with new stitching. So, while I want to be able to add more stuffing so people can better see the costume, I am wary of doing so. I expect mass-produced costumes to be poorly made to a point, but not so much so that there are large gaps in the stitching along the seams, meaning that there are already several holes before this costume is even worn! By the end of the night (he only wore it for an HOUR!), even more of the stitching started to pull out, especially at the tops of the arm holes. Luckily I can sew a little bit but I'm frustrated that I even have to.

Another factor I wish I would have seriously considered before purchasing this costume for my kid is the fact that it's white. I didn't think it would be a problem, but it tends to gather dirt easier than I expected, and we weren't even playing outside. Given the quality of it, though, I'm pretty darn sure I can't just throw it in the washing machine. I may try it on a gentle cycle anyway but that means I'll have to unstuff it first, etc., etc. Fun.

I was really hoping that this simple costume would still be cool and make my son feel excited on Halloween and during the parties surrounding it, but unfortunately it was not meant to be. I think this is probably the most boring costume he's had in all of his 7 years of dressing up and I can tell he wishes he would have chosen a different one. (Which reminds me of another thing: He complained for the entire hour that the velcro on the back of the costume was bothering the back of his neck. Apparently it's quite scratchy.)

If your little one is still set on being an Angry Birds Star Wars character for Halloween and will need to wear it more than once or for a long time, go for the Darth Vader costume instead! You'll still probably need to reinforce the seams but at least it will look more clean. :)

Bottom line: This costume is real cute but kinda boring, and requires more upkeep and time than it's worth! And I'm pretty sure it won't win your kid any costume contests. ;)
